General Information
Solid construction for a fine fragrance
Log cabins have been known in Central Europe at least since the Neolithic Age, i.e. for over 4,000 years. It is therefore fair to say that this construction method has a long tradition. Even today, houses are still built using solid log construction, especially in densely wooded regions where the building material grows virtually on the (planned) doorstep. This smoker's hut from a Seiffen workshop also follows this tradition and comes in the form of a log cabin with a fir tree and stacks of wood at its side, emphasizing the picturesque appearance of a forester's lodge built in the forest. While its real-life counterparts are mostly made of coniferous wood, this small smoking log cabin is made of light-colored, natural lime wood, with the darker scales of a pine cone, which are placed on the roof as shingles, creating a subtle contrast. To use the smoking hut for its intended purpose, simply lift the hut from the lime wood base and place an incense cone on the metal holder inside so that the smoke from the glowing cone can finally escape through the chimney and spread its fragrance throughout the room.
Folk art from the Erzgebirge. Seiffen
The fact that a famous wood art developed in the originally densely forested Erzgebirge is not only explained by the availability of the material. As a branch of industry, handicrafts became all the more important as the local mining industry rapidly lost resources and profitability. Folk art slipped into this gap, which mining - no less than Christmas - still shaped with numerous motifs. A center of wood art emerged around Seiffen, where one of the first specialized trade schools was founded in 1853 to promote handicrafts. In the so-called Toy Corner, small and large craft businesses still produce the classics of the folk art of the Erzgebirge: from hoop animals and smoking men to miner figures and nutcrackers to candle arches and wing pyramids.
