General Information
The pulsating life of the metropolis: Elektropolis
"Elektropolis" is a term for Berlin in the early 20th century, which developed into the world's leading industrial metropolis thanks to the rapid rise of the electrical industry. A central figure of this era was the architect, painter, designer and typographer Peter Behrens. As a pioneer of industrial design and a trailblazer of modernism, his work created a new, functional aesthetic that combined form and function in an exemplary manner. The Elektropolis wristwatch by Bauhaus Walter Gropius is inspired by Peter Behrens. The 316L stainless steel used for the case is rustproof, acid-resistant, durable and also kind to the skin - which is why it is often referred to as "surgical steel" in everyday life. The case back shows the turbine hall of the Turbinenfabrik Berlin designed by Peter Behrens. Beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal of the classic three-hand watch lies an uncluttered dial with clear typography that can be read easily and accurately at a glance. The combination of the silver-coloured case and the gold-coloured hands and indices means that the watch harmonizes with almost any other jewelry. The tried-and-tested GL32 quartz movement from Citizen-Miyota ensures that the watch runs reliably and accurately. The leather strap is fitted with a pin buckle.
Bauhaus Walter Gropius: watches with design history
Bauhaus Walter Gropius watches represent the design principles of the Bauhaus, founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius, whose work continues to exert an influence on architecture, art, graphic design, interior design and industrial design to this day. The clear, functional design of these watches was also created entirely in the spirit of the Bauhaus and embodies its essence in an exemplary manner. The design is based on the work of important Bauhaus students and lecturers - although design elements of Bauhaus architecture are also quoted in the clocks. The designs were created by the renowned object and industrial designer Daniel Eltner. The watches are manufactured in Germany, as Managing Director Christian Schmitt is convinced that quality, craftsmanship and the values of the Bauhaus are deeply rooted in no other country. This means that Bauhaus Walter Gropius watches are far more than just everyday objects. Rather, they are stylish accessories that continue the legacy of Walter Gropius and his philosophy - in a form that appeals to lovers of the classic Bauhaus style and modern watch enthusiasts alike.
