Manufactums Atoma. A notebook and methodology system in prefabricated parts and kit.

The 60-year-old Belgian notebook system Atoma consists exclusively of rolling rings and flying sheets, whereby the rings prevent the sheets from flying and the sheets prevent the rings from rolling - but both always remain easily detachable from each other thanks to a patented special perforation of the sheets. So you can add to the various form inserts of your self-assembled notebooks at any time, change them and mix them as required - even with forms, calendar or address book printouts that you can create yourself from your PC on the blank forms and punch the appropriate holes with the Atoma punch.

The paper. A real writing paper.

Almost all "stationery" for sale today is optimized for its trouble-free run through offset or office printers, which is always to the detriment of the person who wants to write on it by hand (and with fountain pen, ballpoint pen or pencil). We have (very painstakingly) selected a paper that is maximally designed for the needs of handwriters. Pencil and fountain pen glide over it amazingly cleanly, fountain pen and ballpoint ink are accepted contouredly without running, and graphite pens also leave a homogeneous, clean typeface.

    Brussels specialty

The notebooks offered since 1948 under the brand name "Atoma" by the Brussels Papeteries G. Mottart are a standard - at least in Belgium; there, every child knows and appreciates the simple but immensely practical binding technique of Atoma. The fact that their astonishing work method benefits are only revealed at second glance may explain why the Atoma age has not yet dawned in this country.

The principle: spiral notepad, ring binder ...

The handling of the notebook, which is bound by means of closed aluminum rings, corresponds to that of a spiral-bound notebook: It can be completely folded over, thus requiring less support surface than a bound notebook or ring binder, and can be written on without a solid base, if necessary. However, unlike spiral-bound notebooks, the individual sheets of the Atoma notebooks can be removed and reinserted at any point (which also works between the different formats), just as with ring binders.

    ... and much more

So far, so well known. But the real added value of this principle is revealed to those who know how to use and individually enhance it as follows: First of all, the system facilitates the chronologically or thematically structured filing of notes and transcripts (as well as their exchange between different people); the notes can be supplemented at any time; this not only by handwritten A4, A5, A6 or A7Atoma notes, but also by digital or printed information (e.g. e-mails, text/picture notes, etc.).(e.g., e-mails, text/image files, pages from magazines/prospectuses) by printing or copying them onto blank pages. In the same way, you can add your own rulings or form templates to blank pages (e.g. trade fair or meeting notes, minutes, checklists, etc.); and finally: a Atoma notebook can be equipped with pages of different rulings as required - an option used by Belgian students to reduce the weight of their satchels to a reasonable level by taking only the sheets needed for the day (and these in only one notebook). The notebooks, available in four formats, are specially made for us with rings made of aluminum (instead of plastic) and covers made of Texon. Paper cream, 90 gsm. Texon cover (0,8 mm).

    Texon material note

Texon is used as a leather substitute mainly in the textile and shoe industry, but it also serves its purpose as a binding material or, as in this case, as a cardboard substitute. The material, which is made of latexed cellulose fibers and is related to paper in terms of production technology, is waterproof and therefore less sensitive to moisture, much more resistant to mechanical stress, and it does not "delaminate", i.e. - unlike cardboard with open edges - it does not dissolve into individual layers after prolonged use.
