Acapulco Chair Leather

His genesis is nebulous. It seems as if the Acapulco Chair suddenly took shape (again) - without ever coming to light when, where and by whom it was actually designed. If one could assume that its name provides information about its original origin, the name Acapulco Chair seems to have been rather a tactical idea of those who brought it to the market in large numbers since the 1950s.

The Acapulco Chair gets its distinctive shape from its opaque, woven seat. This is created by hand - long straps are thereby wrapped around the powder-coated frame. Originally (and still today), the steel structure was woven with colored PVC cords, the furniture was therefore suitable for outdoor use. We offer a version covered with leather cords, which is extremely robust, but intended solely for indoor use.
The leather used comes from Mexican cattle and is vegetable tanned, made supple with oils as well as wire brushes and brought into shape with a pair of hole shears. Finally, the North American manufacturer produces the seat from the 4.8 mm wide leather cords. To do this, employees stretch the material at defined intervals between the egg-shaped upper frame - later to become the backrest and armrests - and a central ring located in the lower part of the steel frame. The gaps created at the upper frame are also wrapped in leather during this process.
