Advent wreath Thuringian forest glass
The purist form of the Wichernkranz is the Advent wreath: it reduces the countdown to Christmas Eve to the four Sundays of Advent. If you want to go one step further, this striking Advent wreath made of Thuringian forest glass offers minimalism par excellence: a glass ring in which four receptacles for candles or tea lights are recessed - that's all it needs. It draws its high value from the green shimmering material, from the obviously expert care with which the glass mass is poured by hand into the iron mold, and from its massive heaviness. Of course, you can additionally decorate the wreath: The inner round will gladly accept twigs and flowers. In our eyes, however, the Advent wreath already spreads an exquisitely festive mood, when the candlelight in the forest glass resists.
A Shimmer of Green. Thuringian Forest Glass
In the Farbglashütte Lauscha in the south of the Thuringian Forest, the original type of the famous Thuringian Forest Glass is blown and cast. The glass owes its characteristic green shimmer to the high proportion of iron oxides in the sands of the Thuringian Forest. This sand, potash and lime are used to melt the raw material for this highly prized glass specialty. Typical for the Thuringian Forest glass are also the so-called Gispen, air bubbles enclosed in the glass, which characterize the original manufacturing process before the smelting furnace, which has been handed down for centuries.
