Argan lip balm

Nourishing argan oil keeps lips supple and moisturizes cracked, chapped lips.

Argand’Or has been known since 2005 for high-quality personal care products which are manufactured on the basis of argan oil. The company solely uses argan oil from the Arganeraie and ensures that the oil has been produced with the gentle method of hand-pressing: Argand’Or receives its oil directly from the more than 20 women's cooperatives which are organised in the UCFA (Union des Coopératives des Femmes de l’Arganeraie). The union ensures a guaranteed income for the Berber families and helps to maintain the social structures and the unique cultivated landscape of the Arganeraie forests. All Argand’Or products have been produced according to the Natural Cosmetics Standard of ICADA (International Cosmetic and Device Association).

The traditional production of argan oil is literally in the hands of women. It is women who carry out the many stages of work by hand: from harvesting the fruits to peeling off the fruit pulp and cracking the nuts to grinding, kneading, and pressing the seeds. They grind the seeds in stone mills and press the resulting paste by hand. That is the most gentle kind of pressing – without any heating or excessive pressure, which otherwise might destroy the sensitive vitamins and effective ingredients. Finally, they filter the extracted argan oil carefully and restrain from any further processing. In his way, they reliably preserve all of the precious contents and the natural argan aroma.

The Berbers of Morocco have been using argan oil for thousands of years. It's employed in the kitchen where it is added to almost every dish. The oil is also used as a personal care item. This precious and rare oil has already established itself as an insider tip in Europe. And not without reason: The creamy oil with the nutty flavour tastes delicious, and it is also extraordinarily healthy. It consists of more than 80% unsaturated fatty acids, contains a high amount of Vitamin E and protects human cells with its antioxidants. When applied to the skin argan oil is quickly absorbed without leaving behind a slick or glistening film. It provides moisture which keeps the skin elastic and is compatible with skin that is sensitive or prone to irritation.
The precious oil is extracted from the seeds of Argania in the Arganeraie. The argan trees (Argania spinosa) which are threatened with extinction grow solely in the area in the south-west of Morocco, between the Atlantic and the High and Lesser Atlas mountains. In order to protect Arganeraie forests and support the sustainable manufacture of argan oil with stone mills and hand pressing, UNESCO declared the area a "Biosphere Reserve" in 1998 and placed the traditional manufacturing of argan oil on the "Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" in 2014.
