Schröder sources the leather for this single-layer belt from the August Renz leather factory in Tuttlingen. Founded in 1888, this fifth-generation family business focuses in particular on high-quality vegetable-tanned leathers - some of which have also been used for decades for insoles and other orthopaedic purposes. The leather for this belt is a strong, four to five millimetre thick cowhide from the croupons, the most valuable parts of the back of the hide, which are characterized by strength, density and uniformity. It is tanned in the pit for a full three months and acquires a beautiful patina over time. The buckle made of galvanized brass and sewn on with saddler's stitching is a perfect match.

Since 1825, the name Schröder has been synonymous with expertise in leather in Uetersen, Schleswig-Holstein. For 140 years, leather was tanned and crafted into leather goods at the company’s own facility—until 1964. At that time, the leather manufacturer closed its own tannery and began specializing in the production of leather goods. Since then, the family-run business has been crafting belts whose value lies in the details. They are always made from vegetable-tanned or pit-tanned cowhide sourced from European tanneries. The leather is never sprayed with dye; instead, it is dyed throughout in a vat—ensuring that its surface remains textured and vibrant.

Staining of light-coloured clothing, furniture and other objects is possible.
