Pure white and jacquard patterned, bedspreads and bedspreads made of matelassé are among the classics in the Mediterranean region - in Italy and Spain as well as in Portugal, where they specialize in the production of the fabric. As a double weave, matelassé always appears to be lightly upholstered. Two warp and two weft systems are used for its production. The yarn count of the upper fabric is Nm 68/2 in the warp and Nm 17 in the weft; the yarn count of the lower fabric is also Nm 68/2 in the warp and Nm 10/2 in the weft.
The floral pattern comes out vividly on the upper side, supported by a coarse underlay. The bedspread and matching pillowcases are made by a weaving mill in northern Portugal whose specialty is the production of matelassé.
