Benedictine men sandals
Monasterial leather sandals from Aquitaine.
These classical simple leather sandals are hand-made in the newly found Benedictine monastery Sainte Marie de la Garde (near Agen, France). Br. Sebastien is the shoemaker and attaches major importance to a clear, puristic shape and the best possible processing. He provides the shoes for the monks of his "mother monastery" Le Barroux in the French Provence. The vegetable-tanned cowhide for the straps and the insole comes exclusively from Central Europe. The leather is fully tinted und finely polished. A 1 cm thick, especially flexible and, at the same time abrasion-resistant, brand rubber sole provides very good walking comfort. Already at first glance, but even more following intensive comparison, it became clearly visible that this is not only the actually best sandal made in a monastery, but also a very remarkable sandal in terms of material, shape and processing. Weight per pair in size 40 approx. 400 g.
Benedictine Shoemaking in a Young Monastery.
These classic, simple leather sandals are made near Agen in Sainte-Marie de la Garde, the newly founded Benedictine monastery. The community was founded in 2002 by the Provençal abbey of Sainte-Madeleine when in Le Barroux there was a lack of space due to numerous new entrants. In Agen, a small group of monks began renovating and converting an older rural property. They laid the foundation for their monastic life and planned for work opportunities in the new congregational home. In keeping with the area, they planted over 400 walnut trees – walnuts have always been native to western France – and set up an apiary. The small community has since grown into a functioning new monastery with all the necessary facilities, including a chapel.
