Breakfast board fin, oak

The fin or dorsal fin stabilizes the swimming movements of whales and sharks. It is characterized by its triangular shape, an identifying feature by which the animals can be recognized from a great distance. Imminent danger? Not on your breakfast table! Because our "Finne" breakfast board cuts an exceptionally fine figure there. The cabinetmaker Konrad Horsch made it exclusively for us from solid oak wood.

The in-house design, the wood from forests in the Sauerland region: this is regionality in the best sense of the word. If you take a closer look, you will recognize the origin of the wood by the fine, hole-like feeding marks of the millimetre worm that has made its way through the tree trunks. We did not want to remove these feeding marks or have the wood sorted out completely, as they do not affect the quality and durability of the end product. They are symbolic of the fact that our forests are no longer spared the consequences of climate change. Drought damage can now mean that even the strongest oak is vulnerable, less stable and less resistant.

But Konrad Horsch wouldn't be Konrad Horsch if he didn't get the best out of the supposedly leftover wood. He produces our Finne breakfast board in two versions: Natural oak and - with a natural brown, invitingly warm shade - steamed oak. Because it is steamed, the dark wood retains its character, and signs of use will not be visible on it even in the long term. The sawn, smoothly sanded board with a short handle and neatly rounded edges is made even more velvety by a surface treatment with wood butter, which you can (and should) easily repeat at home. Prepared in this way, the oak wood can also withstand contact with cooking oil and fatty foods. Tip: Two breakfast boards placed next to or next to each other make a formidable serving board, for example for a hearty snack or, if there are visitors in the house, to serve a grazing platter with all kinds of hearty delicacies.
