    General Information

A sky arch lights up home

Placed in the window, the candle arch acts as a warm glow of security, showing the way home in the winter darkness: dreamy stargazers, busy Christmas shoppers, weary souls and originally, according to a widespread tradition, especially the Erzgebirge miners on the way home from their shift underground.

This candle arch from a Seiffen workshop lights up your home atmospherically with warm white, seven-flame electric light. The entire Schwibbogen is carefully crafted from the solid wood of beech and birch, the figures of the detailed carol singing scene are turned in artful handwork and polished smooth. The stylized village silhouette with the Seiffen church in the center is slightly offset into the background, creating an appealing perspective look. The holders for the illuminants are also turned from the solid wood - a nice sustainable added value compared to the (unfortunately) common shafts made of plastic. Whether you let this candle arch shine in the window, on the dresser of your living room or as a greeting in the hallway of your apartment, it is completely up to you - here as well as there it announces the Christmas festival of light and creates a warm atmosphere.

On a side note: the name "Schwibbogen" refers to an architectural origin, the floating arch. Since the middle of the 18th century, the Schwib- or Lichterbogen has been part of the Advent and Christmas season in the Ore Mountains. Since the first Schwibbögen mainly depicted biblical motifs, their interpretation as a symbol of the arch of heaven is obvious - but at the same time, the arch also picks up a mining tradition: During the last shift before Christmas, the miners hung their burning miner's lamps on the wall in a semicircle like the mouth of the tunnel.

Folk art from the Erzgebirge. Seiffen

The fact that a famous wood art developed in the originally densely forested Erzgebirge is not only explained by the availability of the material. As a branch of industry, handicrafts became all the more important as the local mining industry rapidly lost resources and profitability. Folk art slipped into this gap, which mining - no less than Christmas - still shaped with numerous motifs. A center of wood art emerged around Seiffen, where one of the first specialized trade schools was founded in 1853 to promote handicrafts. In the so-called Toy Corner, small and large craft businesses still produce the classics of the folk art of the Erzgebirge: from hoop animals and smoking men to miner figures and nutcrackers to candle arches and wing pyramids.
