The Kanalljus comes from Liljeholmens in Sweden, where quality candles have been produced since 1839. The candle is made purely from stearin of animal origin - i.e. without palm oil. There are four channels around the wick into which (excess) liquid wax flows. The effect: the candle burns with majestic calm and its large, bright flame gives off a regal light, producing hardly any soot. Originally, such channel candles were developed for use in churches: The constant draught there considerably increases the dripping of simple candles, whereas the channel candle hardly causes even strong draughts to flicker and drip. The relatively high melting point of stearin allows the candle to burn with a sharp, even edge. At the same time, it makes the candle dimensionally stable; even high ambient temperatures do not cause it to bend. After extinguishing, the liquid wax solidifies very quickly and the wick does not continue to glow.
