To make this velour fabric, the cotton threads are initially woven as they are for a terry fabric (in this case a one-sided terry fabric): with three thread systems, the warp and weft thread for the ground fabric and a pile thread. The loops are cut open after weaving – unlike terry cloth – and the ends of the fibres roughened up to produce a soft, almost fluffy fabric surface. Its surface looks as soft as that of a microfibre cloth, but it has the advantage that the fibre tips are not as sharply pointed as microfibre tips and therefore do not damage surfaces. With the cotton velour, you can safely clean chromium-plated or sensitive (high-gloss) surfaces, e.g. cabinets. The cleaning effect of the fabric is astonishing. The napped fibres reduce the surface tension of water, like washing-up liquid, as we can see from the quick formation of droplets. The damp cloth cleans all smooth surfaces and removes water-soluble dirt particles – even without the use of cleaning agents.
