At the end of the main harvest season, there is some work to be done in the strawberry bed. The young plants from the "best bearers" marked in June can now be separated, the mother plants cut back and the first new plantings made.

After the first strawberries could be picked already at the end of May, the main harvest is now due in June. By the way, the strawberry season can be extended many times over by planting suitable varieties: Monthly strawberries or remontant varieties such as 'Mara des Bois', for example, bear until the first frost.

When fertilizing strawberries, the rule of thumb is: one third before flowering, two thirds after harvest. So in August (at the end of the month) is the main annual fertilizing in the strawberry bed, so that the plants still grow vigorously until autumn and form new flower buds for the next year.
