A New Interpretation of an Old Style.
This shoe is immediately recognizable by virtue of its unusual welt stitching – one single row of hand-stitching at the heel. Hence its name ‘One Cut’! The upper is made out of one single piece of calfskin leather, smoothed by brushing in wax. The shaft has been given all-round padding of the same quality leather with an inside layer of natural rubber: this ensures a great fit and means that you’ll never get blisters. The sturdy gentlemen’s shoe is rather reminiscent of the traditional style of Alpine work shoe. The calfskin leather looks best if it’s kept regularly polished to preserve its shiny, smooth appearance and texture: unusually, it does not develop a patina with age.
Dinkelacker Shoes from Budapest – with hand-sewn welts.
Dinkelacker shoes were first made in in southern Germany – and later shifted to Budapest, the hub of the shoemaker’s art. With these shoes simply everything is right – style, fit, comfort, and above all finish. It takes a whole day for a Dinkelacker craftsman to produce a pair of shoes: the process involves several hundred separate steps! We’d love to describe them all in detail – but in the interest of economy we confine ourselves here to a few special features. First, the classic Hungarian wooden shoe lasts with their slight upward slant, on which the leather that makes up the shaft is shaped after steaming. This shaping process takes half an hour with an ordinary shoe – but a whole week at Dinkelacker’s, guaranteeing the best possible fit. Then, the uppers, lining and welts are stitched on to the flexible inner sole by hand, with cork bottom filling to give a soft, comfortable tread. The sole is of hard-wearing rubber, while the heels are of several layers of leather, topped off by rubber as well
