Dishcloth linen

This dishcloth woven from rugged linen is both porous and supple because it is loosely woven in a twill weave. It’s good for kitchen duty and general cleaning and even for scouring as well. Linen is very robust, it can absorb lots of moisture and shake it off just as quickly, which is why it dries faster than cotton, for instance. The smooth surface of the linen fibres tends to make it antibacterial and dust repellent and therefore easy to clean.

The cloth is quite stiff at first, so by all means, wash it, before you use it, and it will get its ingrained "cleaning power". The washing of cloth woven like this results in a shrinkage of 9%, so the linen surface contracts, making the cloth even more tenacious for rooting out stubborn dirt. The longer it’s used, the softer and more absorbent it becomes.

If washed regularly, a linen dishcloth can hold its own with any microfiber cloth. After the end of a considerably longer period of service, it can be disposed of in the compost. Ours is made in a Swedish weaving mill. It is woven in the full width and then cut to the length; these long sides are hemmed.
