    General Information

Small and fine - emergency helpers for the pocket.

Pocket cases should be small and compact to fit into any pocket, where they unobtrusively keep ready to hand what is needed in a hurry. In the case of manicure instruments, scissors and a nail file have proven their worth, allowing you to correct torn nails or remove small patches of dry skin while on the go. We have therefore equipped the case made of vegetable tanned cowhide with a combination scissors, which is equally suitable for skin and nails, because it has a so-called tower tip. This is finer than nail scissors. Made of durable stainless steel, the combination scissors are rustproof and long cut. They are made by hand, finely pierced all around and then brushed to a matte finish. The blade and gear are mirror polished, so that the scissors are smooth running.

    Dreiturm. Manicure Instruments from Solingen.

These stainless steel manicure instruments come from the traditional manufacturer J. A. Schmidt & Söhne in Solingen. Since 1856, their manicure utensils have borne the Dreiturm trademark. And to this day, the family business, founded in 1829, has remained true to its long-standing location in Solingen and handcrafted production. Manufacture is no euphemism here: Most Dreiturm products are still made by hand. The scissors, for example, require more than 80 work steps in the making: starting with the initial shaping of the blank in the die, followed by the hardening and tempering, and finished with the overall grinding and fine grinding. The Solingen manufacturer has each instrument processed with particular care aiming for lasting durability.

    Investing in Quality Pays Off.

You can recognise the high quality, among other things, by the smooth assembly of the scissor halves (consisting of the upper and lower shear blade) by means of thread and screw, by the fine-tuning and, last but not least, by the precise closing of the cutting edges. Scissors grinder may confirm: The edges should meet at one point only and, when the scissors are closed, the inner sides of the blades should rest with a sufficient margin in between – optimally, a minimal gap remains visible between the upper and lower halves. When opening and closing, the point of cutting moves alongside the blades up to the tip. With nail nippers, however, it is the other way round: the cutting edges are filed so tightly during the final check of the edge holding ability that the two blades only meet at one point: in the tip. Down the blades, a narrow gap, only visible against the light, remains. Only when squeezed, the edges close completely and tweak the nail easily and cleanly. The numerous production steps and the diligent work require time and, above all, a great deal of both: intuition and experience – assets no computer can simulate. Production is costly this way, yet, the investment pays off: These manicure instruments work precisely and reliably for a long time.

    Manicure Instruments Made in Solingen.

When it comes to manicure instruments, you have the choice between instruments made of stainless steel and carbon steel. The rule is: Carbon steel can be hardened higher than stainless steel, and its finishing process results in an even sharper cutting edge. Stainless steel, in turn, is rust-proof, and the two types of steel differ in price. All our manicure instruments are made in Solingen, known as the knife city. We source the stainless steel instruments from the manufacturers Dreiturm and Pfeilring; Niegeloh supplies us with products made of carbon steel. We supplement the instruments most people find essential with valuable accessories and offer them assorted in manicure cases.
