The Dunkelfelder variety is deeply rooted in the Southern Wine Route, as the grape variety was bred there by Gustav-Adolf Fröhlich in the early 20th century. As a so-called “dye grape,” the Dunkelfelder is characterized by intensely red flesh and a deep, dark, almost black color. Here, it is presented as a single-varietal grape juice with a correspondingly dark color reminiscent of red wine. On the nose, it develops aromas of ripe blackberries and wild berries. The blackberries return on the palate, yet the juice is surprisingly light, slightly spicy, and smooth with an unobtrusive sweetness. Dunkelfelder grape juice makes a delicious non-alcoholic alternative to wine at barbecues, in grape juice punch, and in children’s punch.

The Möckli Winery, a family-run business in Landau-Nußdorf, has long specialized in high-quality grape juice. And for good reason: the fertile soils and sunny climate of the Southern Wine Route not only guarantee exceptional wines, but also hold the potential for remarkable grape juices. The vines used for the latter grow freely and healthily in the vineyard. The grapes are carefully selected by hand, harvested, and pressed. A long maceration period ensures that the must absorbs the full aroma of the grapes. Gentle clarification and filtration of sediment are the only additional treatments. Through rapid pasteurization and bottling, the juices are bottled within 24 hours of harvest. It is, in a sense, freshly pressed must straight from the press, preserving the authentic flavor of each grape variety.
