Eco tea light biomass

They burn evenly and with that special soft glow that comes with a tea light. So at first glance, these tea lights are no different from their commercial siblings. But in this case, the appearance is not only beautiful, but at the same time deceiving tremendously - and this in the best sense of sustainability: The eco tea lights are made from a special biomass. Entirely free of petroleum-based kerosene, they consist of 100 percent recycled residual fats and oils from the food industry, catering and hotel industry.

In the sense of resource conservation, therefore, for the eco tea lights are also processed no fresh oil seeds such as rapeseed, palm or soybean oil, which (yet) should serve the food. Although these may originate from organic farming, their large-scale cultivation endangers natural biodiversity. And since the oilseeds often have to be imported, long transport routes additionally reduce the sustainability of the product.

The careful use of natural resources, the protection of biodiversity and the preservation of ecosystems, however, is the declared goal of the Thuringian company LipiTec, which has developed an innovative way of cascade use. In a patented process, disposed residual fats and oils from the food industry are carefully purified and recycled into a biomass that can be used, among other things, to produce candles. Under the brand name Biokema in the trade, these candles are finally an impressive example of increasing raw material efficiency through recycling.

Due to the manufacturing process, the eco tea lights initially show a slightly crumbly consistency. However, once they are lit, the biomass warms up and solidifies evenly - the candles burn evenly as usual, with little soot and odor. We recommend the use of stainless steel tealight holders.
