General Information

Coaster. Made from pure wool felt

Pure new wool felt has long been a tried and tested material for coasters, firstly because of the heat-insulating properties of pure new wool and secondly because it absorbs moisture well. This means you can use felt coasters for glasses, vases and decorations as well as for hot bowls to protect the surface of tables and shelves.

Natural virgin wool from Argentina and Uruguay is processed into firm felt for our coasters. Felting at Haunold® is done on site, in the traditional way: first the wool is washed, dyed and then "laid into fleece", as the jargon goes. Under the influence of water, steam, pressure and soap, the fleece is milled into felt and bonded. As there is no bottom or top, the felt coasters can be used on both sides.

Interesting to know: Virgin wool felt is one of the most flame-retardant natural materials. Whether a product is made of genuine virgin wool felt can (theoretically) be determined using the fire test - if the material does not burn but merely melts, it is pure new wool felt.

Haunold®. Walkfelt with brains

Behind the Haunold® brand stands the Zacher family from San Candido, which has been active as craftsmen since 1560 and thus runs the oldest craft business in South Tyrol. At present, it is the five siblings Johann, Hedwig, Alois, Friedrich and Christina who, together with three employees, produce first-class fulling felt products. Today's business goes back to a millinery that came into the family around 1850. The wool felts and felt slippers are still produced there according to the old millinery tradition - which is why the Zachers still feel they belong to the millinery trade. The rolling of the felt slippers is still done on the old hammer mill, which the great-grandfather had made in 1901 and which has been in continuous use ever since. Incidentally, the brand name Haunold® comes from the local mountain of the municipality of San Candido, a Dolomite peak located in the immediate vicinity of the famous Three Peaks.

Staining of light-coloured clothing, furniture and other objects is possible.
