Hack Chamois Tanned Buckskin Pants
Literally fabulous. Clothes made of genuine chamois tanned leather.
Chamois tanning is one of the tanning craft’s most complicated "age-old processes" that produce more beautiful and long-lasting leather than their "more advanced" successors – nowadays, there are few tanners left who have mastered it.
Kolesch in Baden-Württemberg is the only tannery in Germany that still uses the elaborate process, which takes an entire year: first, the skin is stored in the hide, in a pit filled with white lime, then, it is stretched on a tanner’s tree so that it opens. The preservative effect stems from the oxidation of animal fats and oils, which are mechanically incorporated into the skin’s fibres. In this case, it is codfish oil that is pressed between the fibres of the "opening", using a centuries-old hammering device. With time, the fats turn the chamois tanned buckskin into an unmatched piece of leather clothing. It is nearly indestructible, yet soft, warm, almost woolly to the touch, and capable of regulating temperature. It does not lose this quality during the dyeing process: chamois leather is dyed solely with pigments, which are regularly incorporated into the material and after fusing with ammonia, are no longer soluble in water.
The leg length of these pants is 85 cm size 50. Before cutting the leg to length, please note that the pants will shrink by about 2 cm after being worn in.
Hack. Leather Goods with Character.
Behind Hack Lederware you find Christoph Hack, founder and fine bag maker with a studio in Cologne. For decades he has been working with a wide variety of leathers. Based on this experience, he designs his garments. For example, Hack exclusively processes leather with natural surfaces from Germany, Italy and Scandinavia into hard-wearing, functional clothing and genuine accessories. This is why the selected skins from cow, horse and deer document traces of animal life such as insect bites or thorny cracks. Such a leather gains it’s much-desired patina by movement and frequent wearing and proves a magnificent example of what happens when a leather garment is allowed to age with honour. It is this natural ageing process that gives Hack jackets their unique look. They are made up at the Hack headquarters in Cologne and a Polish partner company.
