This battery holder is specifically designed for a Herrnhut star with a 13 cm diameter or three miniature stars (Ø 8 cm). It allows the small stars to operate independently of the power grid—which is especially advantageous when the nearest outlet is several meters away, but you don’t want to spoil the atmospheric glow of the stars with power cables strewn across the room.

At the same time, the built-in timer function lets you have the stars light up precisely when they’re sure to be admired (so you save energy in the process, too). Once you’ve set the timer, the batteries power the star LEDs for six hours. After that, the power turns off and automatically turns back on after another 18 hours—at the same time you set the timer.

The famous Advent star of the Moravian Church, with its impressive 25 rays, has been part of our product line for many years and continues to enjoy great popularity—one more reason to offer it in a smaller version measuring 13 cm in diameter. The small star arrives fully assembled. With the included LED bulb, it emits a soft glow, but even when unlit, it contributes to a cozy atmosphere.

The star is manufactured by the Moravian Church in Germany ( Herrnhuter Sterne, GmbH)—formerly the “Herrnhut Moravian Church,” a religious community of Moravian immigrants named after the East Saxon town of Herrnhut, which was founded by its members in 1722. Their influence on Christian life in Germany was considerable: the custom, still widespread today in Saxony and Hesse, of assembling a large star as a family on the first Sunday of Advent—whose light shines until Christmas—also traces back to them.
