This sneaker from Ecoalf is a comfortable everyday shoe. They are made using the Strobel method, in which the upper material is sewn directly onto the textile insole before the outsole is attached. This makes the shoe flexible and offers good freedom of movement. The direct connection between the upper material and the insole also allows it to adapt perfectly to the shape of the foot. At the same time, the shoe is lighter as fewer layers of material have to be processed. For the upper material, Ecoalf combines a recycled polyester fabric from the Ecoalf ocean project with a suede alternative made of polyurethane with 20 percent recycled content. The lining is also made of polyester and polyurethane. The midsole is made of compressed EVA foam (ethylene vinyl acetate). The rubber outsole has a distinctive trail profile with multidirectional lugs for good grip and traction, even on uneven terrain.

Spanish designer Javier Goyeneche has found his own way to combat raw material waste. Since 2012, his label Ecoalf has been producing fashion made from recycled fibers. A key project is “Upcycling the Oceans,” founded in 2015, in which more than 4,000 fishermen and fisherwomen from Spain, Thailand, Greece, Italy, France, and Egypt now recover plastic waste from the ocean. This waste is transformed into yarn, which is then used to create clothing, shoes, and accessories. In addition, Ecoalf is also involved in recycling textile fibers, specifically cotton and wool—and finally, Ecoalf has also mastered the challenge of repurposing old car tires as outsoles for shoes.
