Laguiole Olive Wood Handle
A rustic knife: Laguiole.
Earlier, in the French region of Aveyron it was regarded as a rite of passage into adulthood when a young boy received his own Laguiole; and, at the same time, he received the excellent advice to lock the blade in controlled motion with both hands and to not allow it to snap shut – which is today still regarded as improper –, according to a wellknown folk saying: "ressort silencieux vivra vieux" (freely translated: "Without the snapping noise the blade lives longer"). Our knives are from the "Forge de Laguiole." Their blades made of T12 steel are individually forged and hardened (56-57 HRC). The manufacturing of a knife from beginning to end takes in place in the hand of only one knife maker.
