Traditional craftsmanship also characterizes these Lauscha glass balls: They are mouth-blown freely "in front of the lamp" (the gas burner), i.e. without a mold - only the target size is given to the glassblowers. The fact that such uniform spheres are created shows the skill of the glassblowers.

After cooling, the tree baubles are silver-plated using Liebig's silver-plating process. Silver nitrate, which is dissolved in an aqueous solution, is filled into the ball. The heat causes it to deposit as a wafer-thin film on the inside wall of the sphere. Only by mirroring does a subsequent application of paint become optically homogeneous and glossy.

The outer coating of these tree baubles is also painstakingly applied by hand: once the mirror coating has dried, glass painters apply sheets of white paint to the baubles. They then dip the baubles in varnish and place them upside down. As the liquid lacquer runs off, it takes the white of the arches with it in streaks - leaving a unique color gradient on each sphere. To enhance the light reflections of the tree baubles, delicate mica is also applied along the edges of the bows. Finally, the "skewer" on which the bauble was held during production is cut off by hand and the crown is placed on top - now the Lauscher tree bauble is ready to reflect lights from your tree and spread Christmas magic.

Lauscha, a small town in Thuringia, has been associated with glass production for over 400 years. The first workshop was founded there in 1597, laying the foundations for the prosperity of the Thuringian glass industry, which is world-famous today. Specifically made for Christmas trees, all of these Lauscha miniatures are hand-blown. Subsequently, they receive a wafer-thin layer of pure silver on the inside (also by hand), a lacquer layer and a glitter finish. A white decorated tree strikes a chord of “ice and snow and fire” and draws on ancient pagan as well as Christian symbolism of the light ceremonies around the winter solstice. The various balls that come in reflex, crystal clear and ice glass design, as well as the ice glass blackbird from our assortment, belong to this tradition. Red and gold-coloured baubles represent another traditional way of decorating the Christmas tree.

Certain manufacturing steps are carried out by hand. Slight dimensional and color deviations may therefore occur.
