This unique nectar has a high content of methylglyoxal (MGO); more precisely, it contains a precursor to MGO called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is converted into MGO during the honey’s ripening process. The Manuka plant is native to New Zealand, which is why the finest grades of Manuka honey come from there. The Manuka honey used in these lozenges comes from the wilderness of Northland, New Zealand’s northernmost region. It has a remarkable MGO content of 400+, meaning the honey contains at least 400 milligrams of MGO per kilogram of honey. Unusually, the lozenges consist of 90 percent natural Manuka honey.
