Manuka honey has a rich golden color, a smooth and slightly creamy texture and an unmistakable taste. It is sweet and tart at the same time and complex with wonderfully balanced aromas. It is delicious in hot drinks and on bread, but can also be used as an ingredient in many recipes and even applied topically as part of skin care. Manuka honey is obtained from the flower nectar of the manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium), also known as the South Sea myrtle. This unique nectar has a high content of methylglyoxal (MGO), or more precisely: it contains a precursor of MGO called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is converted into MGO during the ripening process of the honey.
The manuka plant is native to New Zealand, which is why the best quality manuka honey comes from there. The manuka honey we offer comes from the wilderness of Northland, the northernmost region of New Zealand. It has a remarkable MGO content of 300+, which means that the honey contains at least 300 milligrams of MGO per kilogram of honey. It is also Unique Mānuka Factor™ (UMF™) audited, which guarantees that you are getting an authentic product with all the natural properties that make this honey so desirable. And, of course, it is free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), genetically modified plants (GM) and added sugar, water and chemicals.
