This Manuka honey has a light amber color, a thick and smooth texture, and a distinctive flavor. It is spicy, tangy, and only moderately sweet, yet very complex with balanced flavors—like a bite of rich caramel with a full-bodied, bittersweet finish. Manuka honey can be spooned straight from the jar and tastes great in hot drinks and on bread, but it can also be used as an ingredient in many recipes and even for external use as part of a skincare routine. Manuka honey is derived from the flower nectar of the Manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium), also known as the South Sea myrtle. This unique nectar has a high content of methylglyoxal (MGO); more precisely, it contains a precursor to MGO called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is converted into MGO during the honey’s ripening process.

The Manuka plant is native to New Zealand, which is why the highest-quality Manuka honey comes from there. It has a remarkable MGO content of 500+, meaning the honey contains at least 500 milligrams of MGO per kilogram of honey.
