General Information

The Beauty of Simplicity. Matcha Set

The Japanese tea ceremony thrives on many small, deliberately executed gestures. What appears to the untrained eye as the simple preparation of a hot beverage is, in fact, a ritual that has evolved over centuries. It is a practice of mindfulness traditionally based on four pillars. Wa (harmony) describes the harmony between guests and hosts, nature, and the objects used during the ceremony. Kei (respect) refers to sincere appreciation for everyone present in the room and to the mindful handling of the objects. Sei (Purity) refers to the physical and spiritual purification of the space, the heart, and the mind. Finally, Jaku (Silence) refers to the deep inner peace and serenity that arises as a result of the aforementioned principles. Every movement when handling the tea bowl, matcha powder, and whisk is rooted in these principles. Our matcha set gives you the opportunity to enjoy this ceremonial moment of reflection in complete serenity at home. The porcelain tea bowl serves as both a mixing and drinking vessel. A bamboo measuring spoon is included, which you can use to measure out the matcha powder. About 2.5 g of tea powder is whisked with the tea whisk (also made of bamboo) in approximately 70 ml of hot, but not boiling, water (the ideal temperature is around 70 to 80 °C) until a fine-textured, almost creamy foam forms. The tea whisk itself dries on the included bamboo holder after use. Simply place the whisk over the holder, bristles first. In Japan, this invigorating tea is often enjoyed together in a group. Our suggestion: Why not invite yourself to slow down the pace of everyday life for a moment and enjoy the beauty of simplicity—known in Japanese as wabi-sabi?
