General Information

From sports to everyday life. The Chukka

The very first Chukka boot can no longer be reconstructed in detail, but what is certain is that this ankle-high type of shoe is crafted from suede, with the laces passing through two pairs of eyelets and a distinctive crepe sole serving as the outsole. What is also certain is that the Chukka is comfortable: the shoe was first worn by polo players during breaks between sections of play (the "chukkas") to relax their feet, before finding its way into everyday wardrobes. Heschung manufactures the Chukka close to this example. The upper leather is a cow suede, and the lining is calfskin. The laces are led through metal eyelets not visible from the outside.

First-Class Shoes from France. Chaussures Heschung.

Founded in 1934 in Alsace by Eugène Heschung, the workshops have specialised in shoes for hiking and hunting from the very beginning. Comfort, weather resistance and durability characterise all Heschung shoes. The high-quality handicraft of the genuine double stitching is common to all models. The welt – folded over to the outside before the shoemaker joints it to the outsole – remains visible on the protruding sole and defines the shoe’s look. Heschung chooses mixed tanned (chrome- and vegetable-tanned) calf leather for lining.

Uppers made of chrome tanned suede. With a vegetable tanned calfskin lining and a black crepe sole.

The specifications of the original chukka boot are no longer known, but this ankle-high shoe made of raw leather and a striking crepe sole belongs to the genre. The shoes were originally worn by polo players between matches ( "chukkas") in order to relax their feet. The uppers of these double sewn chukkas from Heschung are made of chrome tanned suede, the lining and insole are made of vegetable tanned, undyed calfskin.
