These cloth handkerchiefs with a check pattern from Pellens & Loick are of very fine quality. This is primarily due to the material used: mercerized cotton, which is woven into a supple, soft fabric. A special feature of the weaving technique is that they are woven in a fitted manner, i.e. with a colored stripe in satin weave that frames the check pattern. This elaborate technique has now become quite rare because only a few manufacturers still master and use it. It is complex because the loom has to be specially set up for the pattern and size.

The fine fabric of the handkerchiefs is extremely pleasant on the nose and at the same time so durable that it can withstand many washes. At 45 × 45 cm, they are slightly larger in size - not only practical for their intended use, but also as an emergency napkin when out and about.

Hermann Pellens and Johannes Loick are blessed with a keen sense of style and men's fashion. In the vibrant metropolis of Berlin, they not only found inspiration for their designs, but also the right conditions, and so in 1870 they started their own company to produce men's accessories. They designed ties, scarves and handkerchiefs themselves, but soon moved production to northern Italy on Lake Como, where silk weaving and printing had a long tradition. However, all accessories continue to be designed at the company's German headquarters, now in Aalen in Baden-Württemberg. Pellens & Loick also set up its own handkerchief factory in Aalen in 1947. From weaving, cutting and hemming to ironing, folding and packaging, everything takes place under one roof. However, competitive pressure from cheap goods and paper handkerchiefs forces Pellens & Loick to give up handkerchief weaving. In order to be able to continue producing handkerchiefs and pocket squares according to its own high quality standards, the company looked for new business partners and found them in Hungary, among other places: a small manufacturing company there now produces a large proportion of the handkerchiefs from fabrics woven in Europe (Austria, Portugal or the Czech Republic), with a small proportion being produced in Malaysia. The handkerchiefs are still picked, i.e. ironed, laid and packaged, in Aalen.
