Straight-leg jeans in a classic 5-pocket style. The jeans fasten with a button placket and button. The washed-out denim features a distinct “ Used ” look. A small amount of spandex enhances comfort and helps the jeans retain their shape. The denim used is neither recycled nor made from certified organic cotton. Rather, it is so-called “dead stock” denim—previously unused inventory—which is also very resource-efficient.

Mud Jeans is an eco-fashion label founded in 2013 and based near Amsterdam. The founder is Bert van Son, who has 30 years of experience in the fashion industry. During his work, he came up with the idea of not just stopping at the use of organic cotton, but also taking a number of other aspects into account. This starts with water consumption. It takes less than ten percent of the industry standard of 7,000 liters to produce a pair of Mud Jeans. And thanks to innovative water recycling systems and special washing techniques, the water used for Mud Jeans is even cleaner afterwards than before. It goes without saying that Mud Jeans are only bleached with oxygen, without the use of harmful chemicals. The production of Mud Jeans is also CO₂-neutral: through the use of renewable energies in production and by offsetting the remaining emissions. And last but not least, by using recycled cotton. This is where the idea of the circular economy comes into play. Mud Jeans has developed a take-back system for old jeans, which are separated back into fibers in Spain and processed into new denim with GOTS-certified organic cotton. Mud Jeans is also a member of the Dutch Circle Economy Foundation.

The garment may rub off onto light-coloured materials such as other garments, furniture and upholstery fabrics.
