Textile designer Helmi Liikanen calls her design featuring stylized tulips “Tulppaani.” In doing so, she goes far beyond color and pattern to play with the fabric’s texture, material, and feel. The combination of different yarn weights, weaves, warp densities, and floats creates a lively surface that is not only visually interesting but also extremely pleasant to the touch. Soft merino wool (86%) alternates with textured linen (14%); overall, the fabric feels soft and supple. Ideal for sofas and living rooms, where the pillowcase blends in well thanks to its understated color palette.

Helmi Liikanen designed Tulppaani for Lapuan Kankurit in 2019 as part of her studies at Aalto University. The jacquard weaving mill crafts the pattern with great artistry, using exclusively mulesing-free merino wool from Argentina and the finest linen yarns made from European long-staple flax (bearing the Masters of Linen® seal). Please note that the pillowcase measures 45 × 45 centimeters. In our experience, a 50 × 50-centimeter down pillow also works well as a filling.

In Lapua, western Finland, the Jacquard weaving mill Lapuan Kankurit—a fourth-generation family business—applies its expertise to create woven fabrics that meet the highest standards of functionality, durability, and feel. Lapuan Kankurit achieves this by using exclusively natural raw materials and fabrics for its textiles. The manufacturing process combines traditional and newly developed methods, all of which are based on expertise and meticulous execution of every step, from spinning to weaving and finishing. Lapuan Kankurit produces primarily at its own weaving mill in Lapua. A small portion is manufactured in Lithuania and Finland.
