Multipurpose furniture molded plywood

General Information
Readily Embracing Many Purposes.
The basic structure of this multi-purpose furniture made of moulded plywood consists of two parts of different sizes. When plugged together, you can use the construction as a side or coffee table, small shelf, seating or television furniture – and a table and bench for children. When taken apart, you can use the smaller of the two elements as a bed or laptop tray. Special cut-outs make assembling and disassembling and transporting easy; therefore, you may turn the side table into a laptop tray on a whim.
British designer John Green designed the furniture. Given that Great Britain is home to Isokon (now Isokon plus), one of the most renowned pioneers of moulded plywood furniture, the simple, beautifully shaped construction’s origin in York is not surprising. Green takes to heart all the rules you need to follow if you want to build affordable plywood furniture:
- few individual parts,
- as few complex forming processes as possible,
- as few connections as possible,
- few connection techniques.
Green’s multi-purpose furniture with the descriptive name “embrace” shows the application of these premises par excellence. Two bent plywood parts form the elaborate streamline shape of the furniture; two incisions on the sides of each of them allow for plugging the two elements together.
