With its generous nesting space and a 3cm diameter pilot hole, this nesting box is designed primarily for cave-breeding small birds such as titmice, nuthatch or garden redstart. The front wall of the box can be swiveled all the way up for cleaning, when closed it is held in place by an eye bolt. The inner walls are completely roughened and provided with grooves, which are to serve the young birds as a climbing and trip assistance. The metal plate around the hole avoids approaching woodpeckers from enlarging it (in other words, making this nest box unusable for the smaller birds), and a caring oil coating protects the wood from premature graying.

Natural disorder is missing almost everywhere in our tidy landscape. There are hardly any bushes and hedges left around the large agricultural areas, and in home gardens, flowering plants are immediately pruned and cut back, leaves and prunings removed. As a result, there are fewer and fewer natural habitats for beneficial insects and, incidentally, for our native songbirds.
