There they flutter into your kitchen—two owls on a jacquard-woven dish towel. As a functional all-rounder, it’s certainly well-suited for the job thanks to its medium-weight fabric (280 g/sqm). But it also makes a great decorative accent. The wintry, Christmassy landscape is designed with an eye for detail: from the snow-covered cottages to the fir forest and the starry sky, where two shooting stars (or comets?) are streaking across the sky. The attention to detail is particularly evident in the large barn owl, which gazes at the viewer with its gold-embroidered head. It’s holding—another nod to the Christmas season—a card featuring a holly branch. As a festive bonus, the dish towel itself can be put to use: when you wrap gifts in it, the wrapping itself becomes a present.

The archives of the French weaving mill Tissage Moutet house an impressive collection of old, traditional patterns. This comes as no surprise, as the Moutet family has been weaving table linens and kitchen textiles since 1919—now in its fifth generation. Although the pattern for this dish towel is more recent, it is woven using the Jacquard technique on an old loom, just as it was in the past. As a result, both sides of the fabric feature the blue-and-white pattern, each with a mirror-image color scheme. The home textiles are manufactured entirely in Orthez, in southern France.
