This pillow has an unusual size: at 40 × 60 or 50 × 70 centimeters, it’s suitable for smaller sofa pillows or for our linen pillowcases from Lapuan Kankurit. A filling of pure down would be ill-suited here: While the delicate structure of down offers exceptional loft, it provides no support. A pure feather filling would offer great support, but you’d miss out on the pillow’s soft, conforming shape as it cradles your head (during a nap or while reading comfortably in a reclined position). That’s why a portion of duck down (15%) has been added to the feather filling of this sofa pillow. The pillowcase is made of a dense, white twill fabric of soft cotton and finished with piping.

It's no secret that top French chefs swear by the unsurpassed taste of Barbarie duck meat. However, the equally remarkable quality of the feathers and down of this duck breed is less well known. There is even a direct link between the two qualities.

Barbary ducks are the domestic form of muscovy ducks and are also known as mallards, mute ducks, turkey ducks or (and this is where it gets exciting) flying ducks. Although they are not long-distance flyers like other birds, they nest in trees and can therefore fly up to a certain height. This not only makes their meat muscular and lean, but also their wings particularly pronounced and strong. In combination with their size, which is hardly inferior to that of geese, this means that Barbarie duck feathers are extremely long compared to other duck feather qualities and the down is remarkably fluffy. This makes them ideal for use in bedding, as their size and fluffiness also increase their thermal insulation capacity and their ability to absorb and transport moisture.
