Pit cloth half linen

Once upon a time, no miner's washroom was complete without it: the pit towel, which the miners used to dry themselves off and which had to be black in pattern because it made coal dust invisible. The black and grey checked pattern was characteristic, but for a long time the pit towel was only available as a blue checked tea towel. For many years, we had the original in black specially made again by the Hessian linen weaving mill Driessen. The news that the owner would be retiring in 2024 therefore hit us hard, all the more so because he had been unable to find a successor - the weaving mill would be closed and all production discontinued.

What now? A home textiles range without this pit cloth is possible, but pointless. So we looked for a weaving mill that could reweave this cloth for us. The chances were good, as we had often realized our own developments with some of our suppliers - mostly small to medium-sized companies. We therefore asked Vieböck, an Austrian linen weaving mill with tradition and experience. They were immediately enthusiastic about our pit cloth - and the quality of its material and workmanship. They set to work with the aim of producing something at least as good. We, in turn, are delighted with the result: we cannot see any difference to the original and are extremely pleased to be able to continue offering you the black checked pit towel.

As before, it is woven in a twill weave - i.e. with red stripes all around - in a non-slip and hard-wearing twisted half-linen quality made of cotton twine (Nm 70/2) in the warp and linen twine (Nm 26/2) in the weft with a basis weight of 270 g/sqm.
