Raised Cutting Board Untreated Maple Wood
How extremely practical would a cutting board with raised feet be, under which a plate or small bowl fits - for the ingredients just prepared, for cutting waste, leftovers and so on? That's what we asked ourselves when we approached a carpenter's workshop in northern Germany with our idea. The wood was not chosen at random either: Maple is easy to clean and, even untreated, very low-maintenance.
Ergonomic work. Visible: a cutting and work board.
Ergonomic work in the preparation of food allows this large cutting board made of maple wood. On the two ridge strips, it stands ten centimeters higher on the work surface in the kitchen; the inserted rubber feet made of natural rubber reliably prevent slipping. Another advantage: plates or drip trays for the prepared ingredients (including kitchen waste) can be placed underneath. Be aware, however, that the maple wood is untreated and may show discoloration and small knots in some places - for a work board this is completely unproblematic. In use, the burr strips may protrude slightly over the edge of the board or even behind it as the wood shrinks or swells. This is not a sign of inferior quality, but rather intentional and a peculiarity of this handcrafted wood joint, where the wood cannot crack and the work surface remains even at all times.
