Silky-soft and airy. Seersucker
Not all seersucker bedding is the same. Depending on the fineness of the yarn used and the width of the stripes, the fabric can feel more textured or softer. Our seersucker bedding is made from long-staple, super-combed, and mercerized cotton spun into fine yarn. Narrow, plain-woven sections alternate with—and this is unusual—wide, crinkled sections, though the crinkling here is very subtle, so the typical seersucker texture is less pronounced. The fabric feels surprisingly soft, almost silky smooth, yet lies light and airy against the skin—which might even win over seersucker skeptics.
Clever Weaving Technique
Seersucker is especially comfortable in the summer: thanks to the crinkled stripes, it doesn’t lie flat against the skin, allowing air to circulate between the skin and the fabric and carry away heat and moisture. But how are these crinkled stripes formed in seersucker fabric? On the loom, two groups of warp threads are used with different tensions: one tight, the other loose. After weaving and an initial wash, the tension subsides; the looser threads ripple, creating stripes with varying textures—smooth and crinkled—which result in the fabric’s characteristic structure. The name “seersucker” alludes to these contrasting textures: It is derived from the Persian “shir-o-shakhar,” which means “milk and sugar” and stands for smooth and rough. That’s exactly how the seersucker fabric of this cover feels: soft yet firm and textured at the same time. Another unbeatable advantage of this dimensionally stable, crinkled fabric: ironing is unnecessary, because the lively texture cannot be tamed—and, as a defining characteristic, it doesn’t want to be.
The color scheme often mirrors the woven striped pattern, which is why seersucker bedding is usually striped. This seersucker pillowcase also features stripes: in various pastel shades and white, with wider stripes on one side and narrower ones on the other. It closes with a zipper.
