General Information

Monumental footwear. The Juchten boot

Durability beyond a normal shoe life is a top priority at the Schuh-Bertl in Munich is a top priority. Our Juchtenstiefel is impressive proof of this: this monument of a shoe, a virtually indestructible work boot that has been tried and tested in practice for decades, stands like an erratic block among its peers. Derived from a work boot worn since the 1920s, it is made on an oat-shaped last - straight and quite high at the front, with room for the toes. Bertl only uses asymmetrical lasts, which correspond to the natural position of the toes and ensure appropriate support without pressure.

The leather: thick Gallusser Juchten

The leather is a rare, coarse Gallusser leather, also known as mountain shoe leather or Juchten. Obtained from the skin of Swiss mountain cows, this greasy leather is found on the shaft of our boots with the open-pored flesh side facing outwards. It is sealed with fat and wax, which makes Gallusser Juchten extremely tear-resistant, durable and virtually waterproof. Slight scratches or welts, which can occur from time to time during use, can simply be rubbed over or removed by lightly greasing.

Genuinely double-stitched. Without frame

The double-stitching technique used by Bertl was developed around 200 years ago for mountain farmers and forest workers working in extreme conditions. The insole is first sewn together with the upper leather and the lining using the so-called single-technique seam. The upper leather is then folded over to the outside and sewn to the rubber midsole with a second seam. It is therefore double-stitched to the bottom of the shoe, or "double-stitched", which makes the shoe particularly stable. Seam grooves are stamped into the leather on the reinforced heel cap, which largely absorb the seams and thus provide additional protection.

Exceptional Shoes. From Schuh Bertl.

Durability beyond the normal life of a shoe and foot-supporting comfort have been the priority of Schuh Bertl in the Glockenbach quarter of Munich since 1989. Often historical models inspire his frame-based and double-stitched shoes. His shoes nevertheless meet the current demands of our time, which is why they have proven themselves for many years in everyday use. With a two-fold strategy, the Schuh-Bertl works as a shoemaker in his own workshop and as a developer who builds prototypes and then has them produced in small series. The Bertl shoes owe their wearing comfort to the fact that they are created on specially shaped lasts that meet the natural shape of the foot. They feature a straight cut in the front with a generously designed toe height giving the toes a lot of space.
