    General Information

    Monumental footwear. The Juchten boot

Durability beyond a normal shoe life is a top priority at Schuh-Bertl in Munich. Our Juchten boot is impressive proof of this: this monument of a shoe, a virtually indestructible work boot that has been tried and tested in practice for decades, stands like an erratic block among its peers. Derived from a work boot worn since the 1920s, it is crafted on an oatmeal last - straight at the front and quite high, with room for the toes. Bertl uses only asymmetrical lasts, this corresponds to the natural position of the toes and ensures adequate support without pressure.

    The leather: thick Gallusser Juchten

The leather is a rare, coarse Gallusser leather, also called mountain shoe leather or Juchten. Obtained from the skin of Swiss mountain cows, this greasy leather shows on the shaft of our boot with the open-pored flesh side facing outward. It is sealed with grease and wax, which makes Gallusser Juchten exceptionally tear-resistant, insensitive and virtually waterproof. Slight scratches or weals, which can always occur during use, can be easily rubbed in or removed by light greasing.

    Genuine double stitched. Without frame

The double stitching technique used by Bertl was developed about 200 years ago for mountain farmers and forest workers who had to work under extreme conditions. The insole is first sewn together with the upper leather and the lining with the so-called single-stitch seam. Then the upper leather is folded over to the outside and sewn to the rubber midsole by a second seam. It is thus double stitched to the bottom of the shoe, or "zwiegenäht", which makes the shoe particularly stable. On the reinforced heel cap, seam grooves are punched into the leather, which largely absorb the seams and thus provide additional protection.

From Munich. Footwear from the Schuh-Bertl

Durability beyond a normal shoe life is the top priority at Schuh-Bertl in Munich's Glockenbachviertel. Since 1989, he has pursued this goal by returning to traditional shoemaking knowledge, which is evident not least in the fact that it is often historical models that form the basis of his welted and goat-sewn shoes and boots. At the same time, his footwear meets the demands of our time, which is why it has been proving its worth for many years, in some cases literally on a daily basis. The Schuh-Bertl works on two tracks, on the one hand as a shoemaker in his own workshop and on the other hand as a developer who builds prototypes and then has them mass-produced. Bertl shoes owe their wearing comfort not least to the fact that they are made on oatmeal lasts - straight at the front and quite high, with room for the toes and accommodating the natural shape of the foot.
