For lasting shape. Shoe trees.
Immediately after taking off the shoes, you should provide them with exactly fitting tensioners: for example, with our wooden screw strips. If this is not done, the shoe dries in the form in which it was placed in the corner. The sole will become round, the cracks in the upper leather will become deeper. Lasting is even more important once the shoes get really wet. Then, by the way, they are always dried lying on their side, so that air gets to the outsole and its moisture is not absorbed into the shoe. Basically, shoes should never be worn on two consecutive days.
What Shoetrees Do.
Shoes belong on shoetrees or shoelasts after wearing. They keep the shoes in shape and absorb the moisture that formes inside the boots when worn – if the stretchers are made of unvarnished wood. While it is indisputable that shoetrees belong in every pair of shoes, there are two opinions about when to use them: While some say that you should put the stretcher into the shoe while it is still warm, others advise that the shoe benefits from letting it air out first. If the boots have become wet, you should stuff them with newspaper and insert the shoetrees later when the leather is sufficiently dry.
