Structural clarity. Versatile use

Good design is characterized by the fact that nothing more can be omitted. Following this principle, Cologne-based architect Martin Hoffmann reduced this book holder to its structural essentials: it is formed from a single, two-millimeter-thick piece of sheet steel. Without any weld spots or seams, the result is a handy organizational element designed as the little brother of our classic desk bookshelf. Unlike that piece, this bookstand is dedicated to the books you’re currently reading. On the desk, it holds a small collection of books; in the bedroom, on the nightstand or next to the reading chair, it holds a selection of entertaining reads; and in the kitchen, it holds your favorite cookbooks. Thanks to its minimalist, open design, the book shelf blends harmoniously into any setting, maintaining a low visual profile and letting the books themselves take center stage.

Authentic material. Distinctive powder-coated finish

The bookstand is manufactured exclusively for Manufactum at a metalworking facility in Schwerte on the Ruhr—a city with a long tradition of steel processing. After precise cutting and gentle bending, the sheet steel receives its powder coating. This gives the surface a fine, matte texture as well as a pleasant feel and makes the object less prone to fingerprints.
