Star lime wood hand carved

The starling has been named Bird of the Year 2018 by NABU. Famous for its talents, the black bird can incorporate ambient sounds and the songs of other feathered creatures into its own melody. Sometimes even ringing tones, dog barking or the sound of alarm systems can be heard. In the same way, the starling is a formation artist, because it can move in large associations with up to a hundred thousand conspecifics in the sky. Like many other wild animals, however, it now lacks suitable habitat with breeding opportunities and sufficient food, so that starling populations in Germany have been declining for years. Thus, this hand-carved bird made of lime wood probably also reminds us of the importance of bird protection in our country meanwhile.

Although they do not represent classic migratory birds, these figurines have had an interesting journey: our supplier works closely with some villages in Manchuria, where handicraft woodcarving has a long tradition. Manchurian farmers fill the winter months with carving and painting the figures. Based on the manufacturer's patterns, they now also make these songbirds of European latitudes - so extraordinarily lifelike that they are even suitable as identification aids.
In equally accurately executed handwork, the carved figures are painted with water-based weather-resistant paint, so they can also be placed outdoors: placed on a flat surface or even, since they have a corresponding small opening at the bottom, with the help of a wooden stick stuck into the ground.
