Table and Floor Lamp Made of Cherry Wood and Glass
Wood and Glass. The Cesta.
Cesta (basket) is the name of this versatile lamp. You find its origin neither in Japan nor Scandinavia but in Barcelona. The icon of contemporary Catalan design, Miguel Milá, designed it as early as 1962, and since 1996 it has been manufactured by Santa & Cole in Barcelona. With a self-conception like a publishing house, the busy company is always on the lookout for rare pieces of 20th-century craft and industrial culture – the floor lamp “Pie de Salón” is another example in our range. It is a stroke of luck that Santa & Cole, in collaboration with Milá, gave the Cesta an evolutionary boost before reissuing it. The original rattan frame is now made of steam-bent cherry wood, and the shade – still featuring circular cut-outs at the top and bottom – is made of single-layer etched glass instead of plastic. The swivelling handle makes it easy to move the lamp from A to B – from table to floor, for example. You can even use it on balconies and terraces as long as the weather is dry. In any case, thanks to its dimmer switch, it provides a soft to veritable, perfectly homogeneous and glare-free light.
