Tablecloth with Colored Stripes
Kenya's colors in Finnish weaving tradition
Lapuan Kankurit, a weaving mill based in the small town of Lapua in western Finland, specializes in linen and jacquard fabrics. For these pure linen tablecloths, Lapuan has teamed up with Mifuko, another Finnish label, whose designs are inspired by Kenyan tradition and craftsmanship. This stems from the two designers' long-standing ties with Kenya, which eventually led to a collaboration with Kenyan artisans.
The table linen owes its design and cheerful colors to this Kenyan influence, as yarn-dyed stripes of varying widths are woven into the natural white base.
The linen fabric is washed on site after weaving and making up, giving it a soft handle and a lively structure - but this also means that it cannot be ironed perfectly smooth. Only the best linen yarns from long-fiber flax of European provenance are used on the looms of the company, which is now in its fourth generation - also for these tablecloths. A matching table set as well as a tea towel of this type are also available.
