Thanks to its size, the soft green shimmering tree ball is extremely decorative as a solitaire. Suspended from a branch in a window, the characteristic gisps and the natural small irregularities of the Thuringian Forest glass contribute to a diffuse, soft refraction of light and scatter the incident light with fine, sparkling reflections. This atmospheric effect is just as beautiful in a candlelit setting, when the Christmas bauble is hung in the tree as a special eye-catcher or arranged with the Advent decorations.

This tree bauble is mouth-blown using traditional glassmaking techniques. The glassmakers at Farbglashütte Lauscha take glass from the harbor furnace several times and blow it into the shape. The design is particularly harmonious thanks to the glass suspension: in this Christmas bauble, it is pulled out of the glass ready for use - a detail that goes back to an idea by Bauhaus student Wilhelm Wagenfeld.

The original type of the famous Thuringian Forest glass is blown and cast at Farbglashütte Lauscha in the south of the Thuringian Forest. The glass originally owed its characteristic green shimmer to the high proportion of iron oxides in the sands of the Thuringian Forest. Typical of this highly prized glass specialty are the so-called gypsum bubbles, air bubbles trapped in the glass, which were once created by the melting process with wood fire and still characterize the manufacturing process of (mouth) blowing, which has been handed down for centuries. Only the wood fire has been replaced by the smelting furnace, in which the Thuringian forest glass is still melted from the raw materials sand, soda, potash and lime - including an additional pinch of iron oxide to continue to achieve the characteristic green shimmer.

Certain manufacturing steps are carried out by hand. Slight dimensional and color deviations may therefore occur.
