General Information
The Art of Leaning. Confident in Every Turn
Not every toboggan run is a wide, groomed slope. Often, the most beautiful trails are those that wind their way, curve by curve, through the snow-covered winter forest. Such routes challenge both the equipment and the rider alike. They call for a sled that is agile but not skittish, that responds precisely but also forgives mistakes. The Kathrein Touring Sled was designed precisely for such trails. It is the answer to the search for a sporty yet controllable sled for one to two people.
Its dynamic handling stems from its construction: the runners and crossbars are flexibly connected via rubber mounts, and even the front of the frame is held together only loosely by a strap looped around it. This interaction allows for the crucial torsional movement of the frame, turning the entire body into an intuitive steering element. A slight shift in weight, a press of the ball of the foot against the inner runner—and the sled leans into the turn almost like a ski. And the faster and steeper the turn, the more important it becomes to use the steering strap. Working as a team, the two of them can master even the most extreme steering maneuvers.
The design of the runners, too, is tailored down to the last detail for dynamic, high-speed riding. They are angled outward by 15 degrees—an angle that offers more grip, especially on icy surfaces, than a standard recreational sled, and makes the sled more agile and responsive in turns. The textured finish on the steel runners prevents the sled from sticking to wet snow, thereby improving its gliding performance. In addition, the runners do not run straight lengthwise but are slightly arched upward. This barely perceptible curve also makes the sled noticeably more responsive to turns, as shifting your weight backward shortens the contact surface on the snow. Last but not least, the comfortably padded seat—which is particularly ergonomic thanks to its wide, deep shape and made of tightly woven fabric—ensures that the joy of riding is maintained even on long and adventurous tours.
