    General Information

Royal game. Move by move on the train

The king is dead, long live chess! The royal game - the term chess is derived from the Persian "shah", meaning "king" - is the epitome of the complex game of strategy, in which the skill and calculation of the opponents alone determine victory or defeat. Unless a draw is made, a game of chess ends in checkmate (from the Arabic aš-šah mata, meaning "the king has died") when the king is inevitably about to be captured because it can neither escape to a safe square nor be protected by one of its own pieces.

The origins of chess lie in Asia and Persia; in the course of the Moorish conquests in the 9th century, it finally gained a foothold throughout Europe from Spain. After the great reform of the rules of the game in the 15th century, chess became increasingly popular and remains so to this day - modern chess is considered one of the most popular board games in Europe.

You are unlikely to be on a triumphal march when you are traveling, but you don't have to miss out on the royal game when you are on the move. The purist, frameless board of this travel chess set ensures optimum use of space both in terms of surface area and depth: it consists of two halves that are held together by magnets. If you separate the halves from each other, you will find a removable wooden cassette in the hollow space of the board, which also serves as a storage place for the (captured) pieces during a game. The pieces are magnetic and adhere to the board, which has a steel core embedded in it - so if, for example, Deutsche Bahn unexpectedly forces you to change trains, the game can be transported from track one to track five - oh no, track twelve-thirty - and back again during an ongoing game if necessary.

    Warning:

Not suitable for children under 3 years. Risk of suffocation due to small parts that can be swallowed.
